421 soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines from 16 nations received their Common Security and Defence Policy Medal for Operation ALTHEA.
During his speech, Commander of EUFOR Major General László Sticz highlighted that the medal parade “stands as a symbol of what can be accomplished when nations come together for a shared goal. For those of you who have completed your tour of duty, today is especially significant. Each of you played a vital role in maintaining a secure and stable environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
He added, that “the medals you will receive today are not just symbols of personal achievement. They are reminders of the progress we have collectively made. These medals symbolize your role in something greater than yourself — your contributions to the safety and security of a nation emerging from a difficult past and striving for a better future. Your dedication to maintaining peace and stability reflects the best of what we stand for as an international community: cooperation, impartiality, and unity.”
The Medal is awarded by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. Josep Borrel Fontelles to EUFOR personnel in recognition of having fully met the requirements of eligibility and having completed the necessary period of service as a member of the EU mission. The Medal was first awarded in 2004 and is given to every international member who serves in EUFOR.
