EUFOR celebrated the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye as part of the Turkish National Week. EUFOR troops had the chance to taste foods such as döner, çiğ köfte and baklava, and watch traditional folk dances.
EUFOR troops also received information about both Türkiye and the "Vuran" armored vehicle, accompanied by Turkish tea and Turkish delight. The patch made to commemorate Republic Day was also worth seeing.
The Republic Day of Türkiye included a ceremony to mark the importance of commemorating the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye. The event included an array of traditional dancing, video exploring the exquisite landscape of Türkiye and the activities of the Turkish Armed Forces. The event was attended by H.E. Sadık Babür Girgin, Ambassador of Türkiye to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During his speech to the closing ceremony, COM EUFOR Major General László Sticz thanked
“Türkiye, for your warmth, for your inspiration, and for reminding us that in unity, there is strength – and in strength, there is peace.”
The Turkish week was a great success and we look forward to learning more about their cultures, especially their delicious food.
