Dutch troops from EUFOR’s Multinational Battalion recently completed a demanding and dynamic training exercise on Mount Igman, rehearsing tactics, techniques and procedures required for effectively responding to a mass casualty event.
The scenario saw Dutch medics rapidly responding to reports of an incident which resulted in a large amount of wounded personnel, in such scenarios, time is a critical factor as crews rushed to stabilise casualties on the scene, and transport them to the role one medical facility in Camp Butmir, all within the ‘Golden Hour’ to give each and every casualty the best chances of survival and recovery possible.
Training scenarios such as this one provide troops invaluable exposure not only to the treatment of catastrophic wounds but to the proper triage process, documentation of treatment, communication through the chain of command, and liaision with air and ground assets to enable a rapid medical evacuation.
