Recently, the Romanian contingent held its national week in Camp Butmir. The week opened and closed with a flag raising ceremony and a host of activities such as a movie night and sporting events.

The week included the Romanian National Day, “Great Union Day”; this annual public holiday is celebrated every year to mark the unification of Transylvania, Bassarabia, and Bukovina, with the Romanian Kingdom in 1918. Each year, on first of December, the Romanian flag is flown over Romanian homes and institutions

The closing ceremony saw awards presented to winners of a number of different sporting events such as football, table tennis and 5K and 10K running.

Deputy COM EUFOR Brigadier General Lorenzo Dal Maso praised Romania for its longstanding commitment to peacekeeping in Bosnia and Herzegovina started with the deployment of an engineering battalion in March 1996.
