COM EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, and Commander NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, Brigadier General Jamie Fowler, jointly hosted the 17th Security Roundtable at Camp Butmir on 21st October.

The roundtable brought together senior representatives from the European Union, NATO, the Office of the High Representative, the OSCE, the United Nations and key diplomatic partners for a focused exchange on the current security environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina and developments that could affect stability.

Opening the meeting, Major General Fronda stressed that EUFOR’s role in Bosnia and Herzegovina is defined not only by its military presence, but by the work carried out every day across the country. Presenting his assessment of the current security environment, he highlighted impartiality, credibility, cooperation, reassurance and steady progress as the principles that guide EUFOR’s approach. He emphasized that maintaining security is not achieved through isolated actions, but through sustained contact with civilian authorities, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, law enforcement agencies, local leaders and international partners.

Through regular institutional dialogue, joint planning, combined training and practical cooperation, EUFOR maintains a broad portfolio of activities designed to strengthen confidence, improve coordination and ensure the mission remains closely connected to developments on the ground. Major General Fronda underlined that this daily engagement allows EUFOR to better understand local concerns, identify emerging challenges and adapt its activities where necessary, while continuing to provide reassurance through a visible, credible and impartial presence. He added that the mission’s focus remains on practical cooperation and steady progress, supporting the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all citizens.

Followed by a briefing from Commander NATO Headquarters Sarajevo on issues relevant to the wider security environment, the roundtable then turned to specific areas of shared interest, including post-election developments, EUFOR mandate renewal and progresses during 2026.

The Security Roundtable provides a valuable forum for senior international partners to compare assessments, exchange perspectives and maintain a common understanding of developments across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In a complex security environment, regular dialogue between institutions and international partners is essential. Bringing decision makers together around the same table strengthens mutual understanding, supports situational awareness and helps ensure continued coordination on issues that may affect peace and stability.

EUFOR remains committed to close engagement with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s institutions and with international partners, maintaining a visible, credible and impartial presence in support of a safe and secure environment.
