Today, on February 13, 2026 in Camp Butmir, the EUFOR Commander Major General Maurizio Fronda met with Commander NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Brigadier General Matthew Valas.
This meeting provided the opportunity to discuss their shared vision regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the importance of the stability and security in this country. Both parties agreed that there is no doubt when it comes to the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment within Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the role of cooperation between both EUFOR and NATO in achieving this common goal.
The discussions focused on the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and EUFOR’s and NATO’s ongoing activities in support of Bosnia and Herzegovina Institutions in guarantying stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Both parties were in agreement regarding the importance of continued cooperation between both EUFOR and NATO in pursuit of the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina matters for the Balkans region. A stable and secure Bosnia and Herzegovina and a peaceful Western Balkans are in EU and NATO strategic interest.
Major General Fronda reaffirmed EUFOR's strong commitment to remain visible, credible and impartial within Bosnia and Herzegovina and assured EUFOR full cooperation with NATO HQ in Sarajevo over the next 12 months, ensuring that his ongoing commitment to supporting local authorities in maintaining a safe environment for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains his top priority.
