The Commander of EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, hosted the Ambassador of the of Spain to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. María Molina Álvarez de Toledo, at Camp Butmir on the occasion of the celebration of Santiago, Patron Saint of Spain.

During the meeting, Major General Fronda expressed his appreciation for Spain’s valuable contribution to international peace and stability, particularly through the dedicated service of Spanish personnel within Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout the years. He highlighted the continued role of Spain in supporting EUFOR’s successful fulfilment of EUFOR’s mandate to provide a safe and secure environment for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Following the meeting, Major General Fronda and Ambassador Molina Álvarez de Toledo visited the Memorial Park in Camp Butmir, where they paid respect to the fallen Spanish soldiers who gave their lives in pursuit of peace within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The visit of the Spanish Ambassador also provided an opportunity to mark Día de Santiago, ahead of the official date commemorating the Patron Saint of Spain who was also known as also the military patron of Spain which will be marked on 25 July across Spain.

EUFOR remains committed to close cooperation with all contributing nations as it continues to fulfil its mandate under Operation Althea.
