Today, on 18 February 2026, Commander of EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, participated in the annual Training Analysis of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AF BiH) for 2025, held at the Army Hall in Sarajevo.
The event was hosted by the Chief of the Joint Staff of the AF BiH, Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, and brought together senior military leadership, including the Commander of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, Brigadier General Matthew Valas.
In his opening address, Lieutenant General Knežević underlined the importance of continuous assessment and improvement of training standards, interoperability, and doctrinal development. The conference provided a comprehensive overview of the training conducted in 2025, with a particular emphasis on quality, measurable benefits, and lessons identified from major exercises, including ‘Immediate Response 25’, ‘DO 25-5’, and ‘TO 25’.
The Commander of the Operational Command of the AF BiH, Major General Mirzet Lubenović, presented an in-depth analysis of operational training activities, interoperability in line with NATO OCC standards, cooperation with EUFOR, and the implementation of doctrinal development plans. Subsequent briefings addressed international exercises, cooperation with EUFOR, career development of personnel, resource availability, and proposals for further improvements.
Major General Fronda expressed his appreciation for the strong and professional cooperation between EUFOR and the AF BiH, both during joint exercises and in daily activities. He highlighted the upcoming “Combined Response 26” exercise as an ideal opportunity for both EUFOR and AF BiH to enhance their coordination and interoperability, making further progress towards their shared objective to underpin peace, security, and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
EUFOR continues its close cooperation with the AF BiH in pursuit of common goals, emphasizing EUFOR’s firm commitment to remain visible, credible, and impartial in support of a safe and secure environment.
