Brigadier General Bálint Legoza
was born in Debrecen, Hungary, in 1975. After attending the Military Secondary School in Nyíregyháza as a cadet, he pursued his studies at the national Lajos Kossuth Military College in Szentendre and graduated as an armoured officer in 1997.
He started his career as a platoon leader at HDF Alföldi Training Center in Szabadszállás. In 2001 he moved to the HDF 5th Infantry Brigade in Debrecen where he served at various command and staff positions from company executive officer to battalion commander till 2019. During this period, he attended at the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University and earned a Master’s degree in Military Leadership in 2014. He was deployed to Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as the commander of HDF Guard and Security Unit in 2005. He served in Kosovo as the commander of the HDF KFOR Company in 2007 and as the chief of staff of the HUN Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan in 2012. In 2015 he was the commander of the HDF Training Support Contingent in Iraq. After completing his deployment as the commander of the HDF KFOR Tactical Reserve Battalion in Kosovo in 2019, he was positioned to the HDF 25th Infantry Brigade in Tata as the deputy commander of the brigade.
In Tata, he participated in the modernizing process of the unit, supervised the reception of new armament and weaponizes, took part in the planning of the necessary infrastructure development, and the establishment of new training methodologies. In 2022 he was graduated as Master of National Security Strategy at the National Defense University in Washington DC, USA. In June 2023 after his appointment to brigade commander, he moved back to the Infantry Brigade in Debrecen. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on 20 August 2025.
His contributions to military service have been recognized with numerous awards. His medals and decorations include Medal of Merit for Excellent Service (Bronze), Service Signs for Merit (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Officer’s Service Signs (3rd and 2nd Classes), and Service Signs for in-country disaster relief operations as well as Service Medals related to non-Article 5 NATO operations.
He was appointed as Deputy Commander of the European Union Force in BiH on 18 March 2026. Brigadier General Legoza is married without a child.
