On 26 January 2016, personnel from various contingents of the European Union Force (EUFOR) Mission were presented with their EU Common Security and Defence Policy Service Medal Operation ALTHEA by the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Johann Luif.
In his speech, Major General Luif stressed the importance of the Medal Parade in that it formally and publically acknowledges the contribution made by everyone on parade. He stated that it showed that personnel in EUFOR are ready, willing, and able to support the EUFOR Mission here in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). He also highlighted that each one of them represented a practical and positive affirmation of support from their Governments and Armed Forces of their nations to EUFOR, and ultimately to the people of BiH.
The EU Common Security and Defence Policy Service Medal Operation ALTHEA is awarded to all personnel who serve in the EUFOR Mission in BiH.
