With regard to recent media statements, EUFOR Operation Althea underlines that it is the responsibility of the mission to interpret the military aspects of the Dayton Peace Agreement, with an executive mandate deriving from the UN Security Council.

EUFOR is continuously monitoring and assessing the security situation. EUFOR’s UN Security Council mandate includes ensuring that the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina are upheld and that local stakeholders act consistently with these fundamental principles, prescribed by both the Dayton Peace Agreement and UN Security Council resolutions.

EUFOR Operation Althea is ready and committed to fulfil its mandate in an impartial manner. EUFOR’s as part of EU’s integrated approach aims at delivering a stable, viable, peaceful and multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina irreversibly on track towards EU membership.
