On 20 August 2019, Commander EUFOR, Major General Reinhard Trischak, handed over the colours of the Multinational Battalion (MNBN) from Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Sanz to Lieutenant Colonel Manfred Leitner. The new commanding officer of EUFOR’s primary operational arm, the MNBN, has previously served in Kosovo and Chad. He takes over a united, cohesive and very capable military unit from Lieutenant Colonel Sanz, operating under the motto “One Mission, One Team”, committed to the multinational culture, values and spirit of EUFOR Operation Althea.
On 26 February 2019 Commander EUFOR, Major General Martin Dorfer, handed over the colours of EUFOR's Multinational Battalion (MNBN) from Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Pilles to Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Sanz. The ceremony marked the official change of command of the EUFOR maneuver element consisting of troops from Austria, Hungary and Turkey.
From 18th to 20th of June, the Multinational Battalion (MNBN) conducted their forward command post exercise, ZENITH. A very realistic overall scenario was chosen and provided a good opportunity to challenge the troops at every level.
One of the main tasks of EUFOR Operation Althea is to work with the authorities and Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH) to maintain a Safe and Secure Environment (SASE). On 11 May 2017, the EUFOR Multinational Battalion (MNBN) with AFBiH undertook an exercise to regain an occupied Weapon Storage Site, which (in the exercise) had been occupied by a hostile group.
In camp BUTMIR on 14th August 2018 the command of the multinational battalion was forwarded from Lieutenant Colonel Markus Schwaiger to Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Pilles. During the ceremony Commander EUFOR, Major General Martin Dorfer, handed over the colours of the Multinational Battalion from the outgoing commander, LTC Markus Schwaiger, to the new commander LTC Oliver Pilles. Receiving the flag of the MNBN is symbolic for taking over the command and the responsibilities of the battalion.
On Thursday 5 April, the Armed Forces of BiH Barracks in Rajlovac, just outside Sarajevo, was the location for an important EUFOR exercise. The exercise was designed to test the ability of the Multinational Battalion to undertake complex and interrelated public order missions, in realistic scenarios.
