COM EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, visited the Municipality of Fojnica, where he met with the Mayor Mr. Sabahudin Klisura to discuss the local security environment, community cooperation, and the importance of maintaining dialogue between institutions and citizens.
During his visit, Major General Fronda also toured the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Fojnica and its renowned museum. The monastery, one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks, preserves a rich collection of artifacts, manuscripts, and documents that reflect the country’s diverse heritage.
The Commander was introduced to the monastery’s extensive library and archive, which contain thousands of historical volumes and documents, including rare manuscripts dating back several centuries. He also viewed the famous Ahd-Namah of Sultan Mehmed II, a historic document that guaranteed security and freedom to the Franciscans and remains an important symbol of coexistence and mutual respect in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The museum’s collection further includes valuable historical exhibits, such as the Book of Coats of Arms and an extensive numismatic collection.
As part of his visit to Fojnica, Major General Fronda also met representatives of the local Islamic community and visited a mosque, highlighting EUFOR’s continued commitment to engaging with religious leaders and communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meetings provided an opportunity to discuss the important role that faith communities play in promoting dialogue, understanding, and social cohesion.
The visit underscored the enduring importance of Fojnica as a place where different cultures, religions, and traditions have coexisted for centuries. Major General Fronda expressed his appreciation for the efforts of local leaders and religious communities in preserving this heritage and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation.
