NATO’s Kosovo Force Tactical Reserve Battalion deployment to Bosnia and Herzegovina, supporting EUFOR’s Exercise Quick Response 2017

Today troops from the Kosovo Force (KFOR) arrived at the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina, they have travelled from Kosovo through Montenegro in order to participate in Exercise “Quick Response 2017”. KFOR will participate in training with the EUFOR Multinational Battalion and Armed Forces BiH, local Law enforcement agencies and the European Intermediate Reserve Forces.

UK Soldiers Arrival at Sarajevo International Airport

On 6 October 2017 Sarajevo International Airport witnessed the arrival of some unfamiliar aircraft. An Antonov 124 cargo aircraft, the world’s second heaviest aircraft, delivering tons of British military equipment and vehicles , required by the British troops supporting the European Union Force (EUFOR) annual exercise ‘Quick Response 2017”. Shortly after the arrival of the Antonov 124 a Royal Air Force Voyager aircraft landed carrying British soldiers form the 1st Battalion, The Rifles, who are participating in the exercise.

QUICK RESPONSE 2017- Working Together for a Safe and Secure BiH

‘Quick Response 2017’ is a EUFOR-led peace support operation exercise. It will take place 11 - 15 October in the areas of Sarajevo, Pazaric and Kalinovik. This will be the first time BiH law enforcement agencies, Armed Forces of BiH and EUFOR will exercise together in realistic scenarios, in order to test their respective contingency plans.

Visit to EUFOR Operation Althea by Operation Commander General Sir James Everard, KCB, CBE

On 29 – 31 August 2017 General Sir James Everard, KCB, CBE the Operation Commander of EUFOR Operation Althea and NATO's Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, visited EUFOR HQ, Camp Butmir. He was welcomed by COMEUFOR, Major General Anton Waldner and an Honour Guard consisting of soldiers from the Multinational Battalion (MNBN). During his visit he met with the BiH Minister of Defence, Ms. Marina Pendeš, and the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Mr. Khaldoun Sinno, where they discussed the close cooperation of EUFOR with the BiH authorities, and EUFOR’s continuing support to the overall EU comprehensive approach for BiH, respectively. The General also had meetings with COMEUFOR, COM NATO HQ Sarajevo, Brigadier General Robert A Huston, and other key personnel to discuss the future development of the Althea mission.

EUSTAR Project Official Signing Ceremony

On Friday 14 July, the official signing of the EUSTAR project took place at the European Union Force of Bosnia and Herzegovina HQ in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo. The EUSTAR (European Union Assistance to Stockpile Management, Technical Support, and Ammunition Surplus Reduction) represents the second phase of European Union’s support to the establishment of sustainable stockpile management in BiH. The project is the successor to the EXPLODE project which witnessed the disposal of more than 1,800 tons of ammunition over its life cycle.

Weapon marking, registration and recorded keeping Workshop

On the 19th June 2017, EUFOR representatives in collaboration with the Small Arms Survey and the HALO Trust conducted a workshop on ‘Improving weapon control measures in Bosnia and Herzegovina’ with a focus on Marking, Registration and Record Keeping. The event was held at the Hotel Sarajevo.

Mine Risk Education delivered to kindergarten children in Sarajevo

On Tuesday 13 June 2017, a team from EUFOR and the Armed Forces of BiH attended Kindergarten Višnjik in Sarajevo to provide Mine Risk Education to a class of 60 children aged between 4 and 5 years old. The aim of Mine Risk Education is to reduce the risk of landmines and unexploded ordnance to humans and the environment and to make BiH a safer and more secure place.
