Combined mine clearance operation

EUFOR mine clearance experts based at Camp Butmir joined up with a team from the Federal Department of Civil Protection (FUCZ) to make safe some newly discovered devices. The mines were discovered near a hiking trail in a remote part of the Pašina Mountain where access by vehicle is impossible. EUFOR used one of its helicopters for the 8 minute flight to winch the teams in close enough so they could walk to the mined area and begin making it safe.

COM EUFOR meets with BiH Ministers

COM EUFOR Major General Reinhard Trischak met with the BiH Minister of Defence Dr Sifet Podžić and Deputy Minister of Security Mr Nedeljko Jović, today in Sarajevo. The routine calls were an opportunity for COM EUFOR to discuss planning arrangements prior to the start of Exercise Quick Response 2020 (QR2020) in August this year and to talk over engagement and cooperation with AFBiH on wider themes.

EUFOR’s Operation Commander gives positive decision on Exercise Quick Response 2020

Lieutenant General Olivier Rittimann, the EUFOR Operation Commander, has given the green light for exercise Quick Response 2020. The decision has been made after visiting EUFOR at Butmir witnessing first-hand the preparations and safety measures generated to make the exercise as safe and effective as possible.

EUFOR’s Operation Commander gains vital insight ahead of decision on Exercise Quick Response 20

On 10-11 June 2020, Lieutenant General Olivier Rittimann, the EU Operation Commander for Operation EUFOR Althea, visited Camp Butmir to gain first-hand situational awareness of the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be vital in informing the decision of whether to proceed with Exercise Quick Response 20. This visit comes ahead of the Final Coordination Conference next week.

Italian Military Medical Specialists Arrive in Sarajevo

On 6 May 2020, two Italian military doctors arrived at Sarajevo International Airport by C-130 aircraft. They were met by the Italian Ambassador to BiH, H.E. Nicola Minasi, the BiH Minister of Civil Affairs, Ms. Ankica Gudeljević, and the Senior National Representative for the Italian contingent in EUFOR, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Nazzi.

EUFOR reinforces partnership with AFBiH

Speaking recently of EUFOR’s relationship with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH), its members and capabilities, Commander EUFOR, Major General Reinhard Trischak said: “I have met no more dedicated and professional soldiers and Officers than those within the AFBiH. ” EUFOR sees the AFBiH as a partner, enjoying a high level of mutual cooperation and support.

EUFOR COVID-19 update for 29 April 2020

Last week, EUFOR conducted its largest series of tests to date, covering in excess of 500 people. Final results of the latest series were double checked and have shown that only one EUFOR member in theatre has tested positive. He is currently being treated with mild symptoms University Clinical Centre Sarajevo. Personnel who have been in close contact with the individual have been identified and are now in quarantine, until they receive clearance from medical personnel.

EUFOR Extends Preventive Test Series to Deployed Elements

0n 22-23 April 2020, EUFOR extends its preventative testing series for COVID-19 to include deployed elements around BiH. These tests are purely a preventive measure, to survey the health of EUFOR’s deployed elements and exclude any risk to local communities. There have been no indications that any deployed personnel have displayed symptoms at any time.
