Continuing EUFOR support to flood relief

Immediate Medical Aid saved lives
EUFOR has been helping to evacuate the population affected by floods in BiH for six days now. Timely movement and care has been provided by medical personnel to injured and sick people. The EUFOR medical evacuation team, consisting of three doctors and two flight rescuers, has provided immediate medical aid on the evacuation flights of the EUFOR helicopters. Some 41 civilians, including children and the older people, have received emergency treatment and have been transported to hospitals.

Several hundreds of people rescued by EUFOR helicopters

This morning (17th May) EUFOR rescue operations started with a medical evacuation and four more were executed during the day. Around 200 civilians were evacuated in 30 lifts until 4 pm this afternoon. “The older people, children and those who are already weakened and in a critical condition have priority”, said EUFOR Air Chief Lieutenant Colonel Christian Tesar. The flights will continue today until the sunset.

EUFOR helicopters are evacuating people in emergency

Today (16th May) around noon weather conditions improved and made air operations possible to support BiH authorities and the population. Four EUFOR helicopters are currently operating in the areas of Zenica, Maglaj, Tuzla and Samac to rescue dialysis patients, a pregnant woman and other people in severe emergency situations. The operations will continue, as requested through the Ministry of Security.

Brigadier General Andras Szucs welcomed General Akar in Camp Butmir

On 9 May 2014, EUFOR Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Anrdras Szucs welcomed General Hulusi Akar, the Turkish Land Forces Commander in EUFOR Camp Butmir.

Brigadier General Andras Szucs welcomed General Akar in Camp Butmir. During the office call, the EUFOR Chief of Staff, thanked the Turkish General for the support to the EUFOR Mission. The two Generals also discussed the way ahead. Turkey is one of the troop contributing nations that is not member of the European Union.

General Sir Adrian Bradshaw Visits EUFOR Camp Butmir and BiH

On 5 – 7 May 2014, General Sir Adrian Bradshaw, the European Forces Operation Althea Commander, is visiting EUFOR Camp Butmir and BiH
This is General Bradshaw’s first visit to BiH since taking over as the new Commander of the European Union lead Operation EUFOR Althea from General Sir Richard Shirreff. General Sir Adrian John Bradshaw (born 1958) is a very experienced British Army officer and the current Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

EUFOR Chief of Staff begins a series of visits to EUFOR’s Embedded Advisory Teams

EUFOR Chief of Staff, Brigadier General András Szűcs began a tour of seven visits to meet with his 10 Embedded Advisory Teams (EATs) around BiH on 29 April 2014. These EATs are small groups of advisors who work in close coordination with their counterparts from the Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH) in various organizations, embedded to the force structure of AF BiH at Joint Staff level down to the brigades. They are part of EUFOR’s main effort working on Partnership Goals to build and improve the capacity of the AF BiH on a wide variety of military capabilities.
There are two teams at the AF BiH Joint Staff HQ in Sarajevo one of which is the so called ‘Lessons Learned’ EAT, where two Polish staff officers work on implementing Lessons Learned doctrines and systems for AF BiH.
